The Gahanna Lincoln High School's Lions Locker pantry is partnering with Gahanna police and Meijer, 5050 N. Hamilton Road, for an inaugural Shop with a Cop today, Dec. 22.

Gahanna Lincoln staff member Marcie Aiello said she and colleagues Ryan Callihan and Tracy Dyckman launched Lions Locker, an anonymous pantry located at the high school, last spring.

"We provide food, clothing and toiletries to students in need who attend Gahanna-Jefferson schools," she said. "We came up with the (Shop with a Cop) idea and contacted the seven elementary school principals in (the school district) to have each building select a deserving family to participate in the event."

Aiello said the families have been invited to the shopping event this evening, when they will shop with Gahanna police as a family.

The Lions Locker and Gahanna police also will deliver boxes of nonperishable food and toiletries to the families' homes in advance of the event.

Donations have been collected to provide students with $250 each to shop for toys at Meijer.

"Donations far exceeded our expectations and we have just been blown away by Gahanna's generosity," Aiello said.

Contributors for the event include Meijer, Interim Health, Frances Baby (VP Interim Health), Columbus Asphalt Paving, Gahanna police, Lind Automotive, the staffs of Lincoln and Chapelfield elementary schools, as well as several families.

"We are pleased to partner with our schools to help bring a little holiday cheer to children in Gahanna who otherwise go without this season," said Dennis Murphy, police chief. "I want to personally thank all of those who contributed to making Gahanna's Shop with a Cop event such a success."

Anyone who would like to donate toward next year's Shop with a Cop can send a check made payable to Gahanna Lincoln High School and mail to: Shop with a Cop, c/o GLHS Lions Locker,140 S. Hamilton Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230.

If anyone would like to donate to Lions Locker to help students throughout the school year, send a check to GLHS Lions Locker at the high school, 140 S. Hamilton Road.
