The first Grandview Hop of the season is slated for 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 30, along Grandview Avenue.

Bands, arts-and-crafts merchants and a taco truck will line the corridor from First to Fifth avenues for the season's debut of the hop, which is in its fourth year.

Meanwhile, several merchants will have featured attractions and specials throughout the day.

Accent on Nature will host author Susan Sachs Levine of Upper Arlington, who will be signing copies of her children's book, "Packard takes Flight," about a peregrine falcon who wends his way throughout Columbus to find his nest.

Joann Hock, manager of the store, said the hop has provided a lot of great exposure for the business community.

"Actually, I think it's been really good," she said. "We've had a lot of positive responses for what we're doing down here. We're getting a lot more merchant response. A lot more merchants are staying open."

Michelle Wilson, executive director of the Grandview Area Chamber of Commerce, said the hop has steadily grown in popularity.

"It's starting to get to the point people put it on their calendar," she said. "I don't have to solicit vendors and crafters any more. They solicit us. I think that shows you it is a success.

"There's a lot of people walking around here anyway," Wilson said. "When you add the crafters and the music, it just adds to the vibrancy of the community."

Grandview Avenue staple Earth Elements, which sells cosmetics and beauty supplies, will stay open late to accommodate hop customers.

Owner Kyongson Pae said she's optimistic that the new tenants in the Wagenbrenner development, which includes Matt the Miller's and Orange Leaf frozen yogurt, will bring more foot traffic to her store.

"It would be nice if the event were to filter down to our block," she said.

The hop is held the last Saturday of the month from April to October. The November hop will be rescheduled because of the conflict with the Ohio State vs. Michigan football game and Thanksgiving weekend.
