Duane Kesterson, honorary Jackson Township firefighter, died Tuesday, Nov. 18.

According to information from the Jackson Township Fire Department, flags were flown at half staff last week until Friday at dusk. Honor guard firefighters stood watch over his remains Thursday at the Spence-Miller Funeral Home, 2697 Columbus St. During the funeral Friday, firefighters and silent guard were present. Fire department vehicles transported Kesterson to the cemetery. During the burial, Kesterson's mother, Naomi Kesterson, was presented his helmet.

Kesterson, who was born with cerebral palsy, was diagnosed recently with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. His fondest wish was to have been a firefighter, and he was named an honorary one by Jackson Township late last month.

His story was chronicled in the Nov. 10 issue of The Grove City Record.
