The top returning scorer and the only senior on the roster of the Ready High School girls basketball team, Christina Bisutti was expected to be the go-to player.

Averaging 13.7 points through four games, she has been living up to those hopes. What could be the biggest indicator of the type of team the Silver Knights have comes in another statistical area in which she's a team leader -- assists.

A perfect example of the team's ability to work together came Dec. 13 in a 57-47 win over Columbus School for Girls when Bisutti scored a team-best 12 points and seven others scored.

"Offensively I don't think we're where I want us in terms of our running game, but I've been pretty pleased with our shooting," coach Joe Lang said. "We shot 44 percent from the floor (against CSG) and I think we're distributing the ball pretty well. I think a lot of people thought coming into the year that we'd be leaning on Christina a lot. At this point, Christina is also the team leader in assists. We've stressed (chemistry) constantly, and I think you've got to like each other and you've got to enjoy seeing your teammates do things successfully."

Defense and rebounding also have been strong suits for Ready. Although the Silver Knights allowed 61 in a 15-point loss to Grove City on Dec. 2, they held Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas to 29 in a 44-point win Dec. 6. Taylor Riggs and Alyssa Zag had 12 rebounds against CSG.

Lang knows his team will need to continue to have success in those areas if it ends up in the championship of the Lady Viking Holiday Classic on Tuesday at Teays Valley, considering the opponent will be Grove City or Jonathan Alder.

"(Greyhounds coach Dale Corbett) coached me in Grove City and I think it's a good test to play them, although I don't really think we need to play them twice," Lang said in jest.

•After winning the Bobcat Classic championship each of the last two seasons at Grandview, the boys basketball team begins a new two-year contract over the holidays with the Celina HALLiday Shootout on Monday and Tuesday.

The Silver Knights face Greenville at 6 p.m. Monday. The others in the four-team event include Celina and Bryan.

"I like to do tournaments for two years and it's just an opportunity to get out of town," coach Andy Clark said.

"Matt Brickner, who is an assistant on my staff, is from Delphos, which is not too far away from there in the northwest part of Ohio. It's almost at the Indiana border. We enjoyed being in the Grandview tournament and maybe someday we'll get back into it."

Ready only can hope that forward Joe Graessle takes his hot shooting start with him on the trip.

In the Silver Knights' opening victories over Hartley 66-65 on Dec. 12 and Horizon Science 62-39 on Dec. 16, he made a combined 10 3-pointers and averaged 21.5 points.

About the only complaint from Clark about his team's early play is that it had more turnovers than he was hoping against Horizon Science and was outrebounded against Hartley.

"(Graessle has) really done a nice job," Clark said. "We knew he was going to have to carry some of the scoring load. He and (Ryan Clark) have been pretty consistent scorers, and (in the first two games) we managed to find a third scorer to go along with them. Cody Corrova and Joey Kulp have both have had good games and we still feel like Matt Biggs and even Eddie Bahen could provide points for us."
