The Rev. John Steppert, Grove City High School class of 1954, recently was appointed by the Cowlitz County commissioners to the three-county Southwest Washington Behavioral Health Mental Health Advisory Board in the state of Washington.

The Rev. John Steppert, Grove City High School class of 1954, recently was appointed by the Cowlitz County commissioners to the three-county Southwest Washington Behavioral Health Mental Health Advisory Board in the state of Washington.

The mission of the board is to assist and advise Southwest Behavioral Health to ensure timely, ready access to quality mental health services for people in need, their families and the community.

Steppert also is chairman of the Cowlitz County Mental Health Advisory Board. He is retired from Peacehealth St. John Medical Center, Longview, Wash., where he served for over 25 years as chaplain and counselor.

His work included providing services to the hospital's inpatient psychiatric unit and inpatient drug and alcohol treatment center. Steppert earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Belmont University (Nashville, Tenn.) and a Master of Divinity at San Francisco Theological Seminary (Presbyterian). This summer, he will attend the Washington Behavioral Health Conference in Yakima.
