The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is investigating a single-car accident that killed a Grove City Christian High School student April 30.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is investigating a single-car accident that killed a Grove City Christian School student April 30.

Derrick V. Norwood, 17, of Grove City was killed after the car he was riding in went off the road and struck a utility pole on Beatty Road, west of U.S. Route 62 in Pleasant Township, according to the sheriff's office.

The accident occurred about 9:20 p.m.

Norwood was taken to Mount Carmel, Grove City, where he died.

The driver of the car, Weston C. Baker, 18, of Mount Sterling was not injured.

Both Norwood and Baker were wearing seat belts.

It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs might have been a factor in the crash.

The investigation is continuing, and no other information was available from the sheriff's department.
