Brenda Pereyra Perez of the Central Crossing High School girls track and field team won the long jump in the 16-team Division I, district 3 meet held May 22, 23 and 25 at Hilliard Darby to lead five area athletes into the regional meet.

Brenda Pereyra Perez of the Central Crossing High School girls track and field team won the long jump in the 16-team Division I, district 3 meet held May 22, 23 and 25 at Hilliard Darby to lead five area athletes into the regional meet.

Pereyra Perez, a senior, had a school-record effort of 17 feet, 2 1/2 inches in the long jump and was third in the 100 meters (12.57 seconds). The top four finishers in each event qualified for the regional May 29 and Friday, May 31, at Pickerington North, where the top four in each event advance to the state meet June 7 and 8 at Ohio State.

Senior Molly Lalonde was fourth in the 1,600 (5:17.16) and 3,200 (11:36.41) at district, helping the Comets score 31 points and tie Teays Valley for eighth behind champion Dublin Coffman (141).

The Central Crossing boys scored one point in district 3, from junior Isse Roble's eighth-place effort in the 3,200 (10:13.21), and finished 16th behind champion Granville (117).

Three Grove City athletes earned regional berths in the district 2 meet held May 21, 22 and 25 at Darby. From the girls team, junior Megan Darst was second in the shot put (34-10 3/4) and sophomore Hannah Hawkins was second in the discus (107-0). Sophomore Koffi Edah of the boys team was second in the 300 hurdles (39.88).

The girls were ninth (30) behind champion Gahanna (141.5) and the boys tied Columbus East and Reynoldsburg for eighth (22) behind champion Hilliard Davidson (140).
