The 25th Old Hilliardfest will feature a central Ohio favorite as its headliner act.

McGuffey Lane will perform at 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 10, it was recently announced.

"We wanted to bring in a headline band that would attract a large crowd composed of residents and visitors from all over Ohio," said Ed Daniel, organizer of Old Hilliardfest.

McGuffey Lane was formed in 1972 in Columbus and had a couple of country hits in the 1980s. After dissolving in 1990, the band reunited in 1995. McGuffey Lane remains a popular draw at local festivals and events.

At a recent meeting, members of the Hilliard Civic Association, volunteers who put on the Old Hilliardfest discussed a number of things, including seating for McGuffey Lane.

"We'll have our hundreds of folding chairs," Daniel said, when it was noted that a lot of the band's fans are older and may not be dancing the entire time.

Hilliard-area high school students who may not have heard of McGuffey Lane can attend "Friday Night Lights", a post-game event hosted by the Hilliard Youth Council from 9:30-11:30 p.m. Sept. 10. Also performing on Sept. 10 prior to McGuffey Lane will be the Greater Columbus Community Orchestra.

The Old Hilliardfest Street Fair and Art Fair is a two-day event, which continues Sept. 11 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. over four blocks on Main Street in Old Hilliard. This year's fair coincides with the First Responders Park dedication from noon to 1 p.m. at the corner of Main and Center streets.

Ken Brenneman, executive director of the Hilliard Arts Council, said there will be more than 60 artisans at Hilliardfest, similar to last year. The Old Hilliardfest will include a juried art fair, a car show, rides, games and three stages of music. Daniel said there will be 75-100 commercial vendors. HCA member Bill Guttliep said the event usually draws 8,000 people.

The HCA is meeting weekly to put the finishing touches on this year's Old Hilliardfest. Daniel said more volunteers are needed.
