The Hilliard Darby High School jazz ensemble and big band participated in the Capital University Jazz Festival April 8.

Both groups performed and received feedback from guest clinicians from all over the world. In addition to attending clinics, the students were treated to a concert presented by the guests and Capital University faculty.

The Hilliard Davidson High School chamber orchestra was awarded third place at the American String Teachers Association National Orchestra Festival, held in Kansas City, Mo., in March.

The group performs under the direction of Mark Sholl, Caitlin Bartholic and Ginny Faulkner.

Participation in the festival is by audition only. The orchestra performed a rigorous 45-minute program of Greig, Tchaikovsky, Mozart and Shosta-kovich. Following their adjudicated performance, orchestra members attended a clinic with Andrew Dabczynski from Brigham Young University.

The three judges were highly complementary of Davidson's performance, describing the group as a "clearly talented and gifted ensemble with excellent players" that "exhibited fine technique, style, articulation and many other positive attributes."
