Nominations are being accepted for the 2011 class of the Hilliard Senior Citizen Hall of Fame.

Forms can be found online at hilliardohio.gov (under the Play section) or picked up at the Senior Center, Recreation and Parks Department or City Hall. The nomination deadline is Aug. 1.

Nominees must be 65 or older. They can be an individual, a couple, or an organization. They must have lived in the Hilliard City School District the past five years (with some exceptions); and cannot be elected officials. Candidates may be nominated posthumously.

Inductees are chosen based on their lifetime of service, achievements, and how they represent a positive image of aging. The nominations are considered for a five-year period and may be resubmitted the sixth year.

The induction ceremony is 2 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Phyllis A. Ernst Senior Center.


The Recreation and Parks award has trophies for the Fourth of July parade winners available at the Community Center.

Congressman Steve Stivers (R, Columbus) has announced that that his office is accepting applications from college students interested in serving as interns for the fall term.

"An internship is an excellent way for students to expand their skill set and get a better insight into the inner workings of Congress," Stivers said in a statement.

Internships are available in Stivers' Hilliard and Washington, D.C., offices. Responsibilities vary, and can include day-to-day office work. Interns in the Hilliard office may also be assigned to assist in various constituent casework and district-based projects. In Washington, interns may also be tasked with researching legislation, attending briefings and hearings, and answering constituent letters.

College students interested in an internship in the Washington, D.C., office should call Joy Downey at (202) 225-2015. Those interested in interning in the Hilliard office should call Barbara Taylor or Minyet Hua at 614-771-4968.

Applicants must complete and submit the internship application no later than Aug. 2 for consideration in the fall term.
