Hilliard might get its own Internet television station, known as HilliardTV.

"I think it will be a great amenity to the community and the school district," said Libby Gierach, president and CEO of the Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce. "The chamber is pleased to have brought that to the community."

The chamber met with Gahanna-based SOH Productions on March 13 regarding the channel.

Gierach said an official announcement wouldn't be made until at least mid-April.

The purpose of the station, according to a proposal from SOH Productions, is "to provide the residents of Hilliard with an informational and educational resource to turn to for the latest information about and for our community."

The station would be owned and operated by SOH Productions, with programming determined by a board of directors made up of Hilliard representatives from each organization that has a channel.

Examples of organizations with their own channels would be the chamber, the city of Hilliard, the Hilliard City School District, churches, businesses and Destination Hilliard.

Each organization would sign an agreement for three years. Each channel would offer programs three to 15 minutes in length.

The programs would be available "On Demand" for a year from computers and video-compatible phones.

"The station will be financially supported through the sale of sponsorships and advertising by SOH Productions to area businesses," the proposal said.

"SOH Productions will be creating, developing and launching Internet TV Stations for each of the 22 suburbs around the central Ohio area," the proposal stated. GahannaTV is an example of a suburb that already has a station.
