The Norwich Township Fire Department will provide such services as inspections and investigations to Prairie Township through June 16 at a fee of $80 per hour, according to a contract the trustees approved Jan. 5.

Prairie Township officials agreed to the terms prior to the trustees' approval, Norwich Township fire Chief Jeff Warren said.

Warren said Prairie Township fire Chief Chris Snyder called him in early December to explore the possibility of Norwich providing fire-prevention services to Prairie Township on a short-term basis.

The township's former fire marshal left Prairie Township for a job with another department, effective Dec. 16, Warren said.

"It's kind of a unique skill set," Warren said of fire marshals.

He said Snyder indicated he did not think Prairie could fill the position soon enough.

The specific services Norwich Township will provide include inspections of homes and businesses, both annual and those required for occupancy permits, and arson investigations, Warren said.
