Chris Wourms had been looking forward to his junior season with the Hilliard Davidson High School boys bowling team since leading the Wildcats in the Division I district tournament last year.

Wourms' 560 third-game series led Davidson to an 18th-place finish (3,492) at district last season, and he finished the season with a team-best 183 average.

Wourms again is expected to lead the Wildcats this season, and he hopes his team can advance to state.

"I would consider myself a leader just because of the way I bowl during matches," he said. "I can normally pull it out during anchor games in the Bakers. We have a bunch of new guys, but I think the returning guys have improved a ton over the summer, so that should carry us to district and hopefully state."

The Wildcats opened the season by defeating Big Walnut 2,067-1,836 on Dec. 16 at Capri Lanes. Wourms led Davidson with a 433 two-game series.

Sophomore Grayson Hollaway was next with a 379 series, followed by juniors Jacob Shoemaker (355) and Eli Keneda (319).

Hollaway and Shoemaker are returnees.

"(The boys) totally surprised me," eighth-year coach Adrian Jasinski said. "I didn't think we were going to do as good as we did."

Also back are senior Scott Brown and sophomore Micah Neese.

Rounding out the team are senior James Mason, juniors Zane Clipner and Shubham Sinha, sophomores Daniel McElfresh and Korey Pummell and freshman Joel Brennen, Noah Stocker and Dominic Williams.

The girls team did not have a complete lineup in its opening 1,348-708 loss to Big Walnut on Dec. 16. Freshman Reilly Wolfinger led Davidson with a 235 series, followed by sophomore returnee Hannah Mathews (226).

Also on the team are senior Olivia Boysel and sophomores Madelyn Bennett and Melanie Kelly.

Jasinski, who is in his first season coaching the girls, is hoping to add more players in the coming weeks.

"I'd like to have a full team and win a few (matches) because they're mainly beginners," Jasinski said.

Jasinski said the Wildcats had a late start to the season because of a lack of available time at their home facility, Ten Pin Alley. Their next match isn't until Jan. 3 when they compete against Darby at Ten Pin Alley.

Boys basketball team seeks first league win

The boys basketball team will aim for its first OCC-Central Division win when it resumes league play Jan. 6 at home against Central Crossing.

The Wildcats were 2-2 overall before playing Lancaster on Dec. 20 and are 0-2 in the league.

Davidson lost to visiting Upper Arlington 44-36 on Dec. 16. Nick Livingston led the Wildcats with 16 points.

Gymnasts finish eighth in Hilliard Invitational

The gymnastics team finished eighth (118.6 points) in the 12-team Hilliard Invitational on Dec. 17 at Bradley, behind champion Olentangy (132.4).

Reese Ashley tied for seventh in the all-around (33.15).

Girls basketball team out to slow start

The girls basketball team was 0-6 overall before playing Lancaster on Dec. 20 and is 0-3 in the OCC-Central.

The Wildcats lost at Upper Arlington 54-39 on Dec. 16 after falling at Pickerington North 54-29 on Dec. 13.

Morgan Coleman had 13 points against UA, while Emily Simon scored nine against North.
