The letter to Santa should include the full name and address of each child in the household, so each youngster can receive their own letter from Santa.

No postage is needed on the letters.

The letters to Santa program is sponsored through the Angels and Astronauts Child Conservation League.

American Legion Post 254 in Johnstown is once again asking for help in collecting toys for tots for the needy children of the Johnstown and Northridge school districts (Croton, Homer, Alexandria and Johnstown).

The Legion has provided collection boxes at the following locations in hopes of helping children of the community: Lash Chevrolet, Heartland Bank of Johnstown and Croton, Park National Bank, Johnstown Recreation Center, Coughlin Ford, the fire houses in Johnstown and Croton, Johnstown Animal Hospital, Kroger, Johnstown's Babcock Library, Alexandria Library, Johnstown-Monroe High School, Tech Rubber, Chimes, Southern Baptist Church, New Look and the Dollar Store in Johnstown.

The Legion also welcomes any phone calls to donate toys or cash contributions. Donated toys should be in new or good condition so they can be passed on to the children.

The distribution of toys will be Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Johnstown Community Center on Maple Street. Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. just to get the ages and number of children.

The Big Red Band will escort Santa Claus into Johnstown at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, during the 39th annual Christmas Parade.

Big Red and Claus will be joined by the Johnstown-Monroe High School cheerleaders, Miss Johnstown Brianna Warner, 4-H queens and other local royalty. Anyone who would like to participate in the parade should meet in the high school parking lot at 9:30 a.m.

Santa will meet and greet children in his house in Bigelow Park at noon on Dec. 6 and will return each weekday Wednesday, Dec. 10, through Friday, Dec. 19, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Santa will also be available from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Dec. 13.

Alexandria Fire Association's fourth annual "Brunch with Santa" will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, at Northridge Primary School during the Alexandria Christmas Festival.

Families are invited to enjoy a cost-by-donation pancake brunch while kids visit with Santa Claus.

Other fun family events will include the Holiday Parade, Alexandria United Methodist Church Cookie Fair, Alexandria Garden Club Swag Sale, Alexandria Public Library Art Show and Alexandria Museum Christmas Open House.
