The Licking Heights Board of Education has chosen Dr. Philip H. Wagner as the district's new superintendent.

The board scheduled a special meeting for 5:30 p.m. tonight (July 24) to vote to approve Wagner's contract.

Wagner is the assistant superintendent of Beachwood City Schools, overseeing the district's curriculum, technology and human-resources departments, according to a press release from the district.

"Licking Heights talked to some very dynamic people, but one candidate stood out above the rest," board president Matt Satterwhite said in the press release. " Dr. Wagner is consistently relied upon for his expertise and organization in a wide variety of areas. ... His skills and personality fit the needs we are looking to address and the criteria shared by our neighbors in our community discussions that they are looking for in the next superintendent."

Wagner is expected to visit the district and talk to district personnel prior to officially starting his contract in August. A formal reception will be scheduled soon, according to the press release.
