The 21st annual Licking County Senior Fishing Tournament, for seniors and the physically challenged of any age, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 5 at T.J. Evans Park in north Newark. Meal tickets for the fishing derby are $3 and must be purchased in advance. Tickets are available at the front desk of Heritage Hall Senior Center, 1058 E. Main St., through June 3. The picnic includes hamburgers, hot dogs and side dishes. Coffee and pastries will be available in the morning at the shelter house. The fishing tourney is sponsored by the Land of Legend Fly Fishers and Friends, DAV Chapter 23, Sak's Market, Newark Parks and Recreation Department and LCAP. Licking Memorial Health Systems, Cancer Survivors' Picnic in recognition of National Cancer Survivors' Day, 1 to 3 p.m. June 9 on the front lawn of the hospital, 1320 W. Main St., Newark. Licking County's 1st United Race, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 15 at the Licking County Family YMCA. The event for ages 12 and up is patterned after the television show The Amazing Race. Velvetonia, a fundraiser between Velvet Ice Cream and the Granville Pelotonia team, 6:30 to 9 p.m. June 21 at Velvet Ice Cream's Ye Olde Mill. The evening soiree includes specialty cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and live entertainment. Summer cocktail attire is encouraged, and all guests must be at least 21 years of age. John Looker, who has stage-four, terminal brain cancer and has been a key inspiration for Pelotonia, will serve as emcee. All proceeds will benefit Team Granville Pelotonia, supporting riders and their fundraising efforts.
