After Worthington Christian took advantage of two throwing errors to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the top-seeded Green Wave scored 11 times in the bottom half against pitchers Casey Hamrick, Frankie Myers and Caleb Penney and won 14-4 in five innings.

Newark Catholic improved to 20-9 and advanced to a regional semifinal May 30 against Racine Southern at Beavers Field in Lancaster.

Worthington Christian, which was seeded third, finished 16-8.

The Warriors committed four errors and Newark Catholic sent 16 batters to the plate in the first.

Newark Catholic's Chayce Crouch had an RBI double and an RBI single, James Thomas had an RBI double and Aaron Jurden and Mike Lohr each had RBI singles in the first.

Hunter Nance finished with three hits and four RBI.

Mitch Cox struck out eight and allowed five hits for the Green Wave.

The last time Worthington Christian played Newark Catholic in the tournament was a 2009 district semifinal, which the Warriors lost 11-2. Worthington Christian also lost district finals to the Green Wave in 2007 (10-7) and 2008 (5-1).
