During a perfect regular season, the Lakewood High School softball team won all but three games by at least four runs.

It's with that dominating pedigree that the top-seeded Lancers opened the Division II district tournament May 12 by beating 19th-seeded Columbus East 10-0.

Lakewood plays ninth-seeded Bloom-Carroll in a district semifinal Tuesday, May 17, at Pickerington North.

If the Lancers win that game, they would face fourth-seeded Caledonia River Valley or eighth-seeded Whitehall in a district final Friday, May 20, or Saturday, May 21, at Pickerington Central.

Lakewood was 22-0 after beating East. During the regular season, Courtney Vierstra went 16-0 with a 0.52 ERA and 146 strikeouts.

Kristin Peacock was batting .524 with four home runs and 36 RBI, and Brenna Brownfield was hitting .522 with six home runs, 42 RBI and 35 runs.

Also looking to make another long Division II tournament run after beating Lakewood in last year's state final is third-seeded Granville, which was 16-8 after beating 18th-seeded Columbus South 27-0 on May 12 in a second-round game.

Granville plays fifth-seeded Hartley in a district semifinal Tuesday, May 17, at a site to be announced, and that winner plays second-seeded Jonathan Alder or 10th-seeded Hamilton Township in a district final May 20 or 21 at Central.

Granville gets a rematch with Hartley, which it edged 11-9 on April 1.

Heading into the tournament, senior Nikki Cox was batting a team-best .544 and Vega Theophilus was hitting .500.

In the Division IV district tournament, third-seeded Granville Christian and fourth-seeded Newark Catholic also were hoping for long tournament runs.

The winner of the second-round game plays second-seeded Berne Union in a district semifinal Monday, May 16, at a site to be announced. That winner plays top-seeded Danville or fifth-seeded East Knox in a district final May 20 or 21 at Central
