The Marysville Division of Fire received $38,000 worth of extrication equipment Friday thanks to a 90 percent subsidy through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.

The equipment replaces outdated equipment that is more than 22 years old, fire Chief Gary Johnson said. The rescue tools include two power units, spreaders, cutters, rams and other equipment to assist firefighters in difficult auto and machinery rescues involving entrapment.

Johnson said the new equipment is lighter, more efficient and significantly more powerful than equipment currently in use.
