Marysville will ring in the holiday season Monday with the city's annual Christmas Walk in the Historic Uptown Business District.

This year's event will include carolers, live music, dancing demonstrations from Patty Berry's School and Instep Dance Studio, a live nativity scene at Lambert's Jewelry and a book signing at the library, according to Union County Chamber of Commerce tourism director Christy Clark.

The theme of this year's walk is "It's A Wonderful Christmas." According to the festival's organizing body, the Uptown Renewal Team (URT), the theme was selected to remind everyone that although 2009 presented challenging times for many residents, there is no better time than the holiday season to surround one's self with loved ones and enjoy the simple things in life.

Monday evening's festivities will begin at 5 p.m. with a Christmas tree-lighting ceremony. The ceremony will also include Freddie the Fire Department robot, who will stop by to teach children about fire safety, according to Clark. Other activities for children will include art projects such as ornament decorating, and the annual visit from Santa and his barking elves (from the Union County Humane Society).

Kim Hott, owner of Uptown Antiques, said the annual event brings hundreds of people through Marysville's Uptown District.

"I've been involved with Christmas Walk for years, long before I was a business owner," Hott said. "It's such a delightful event -- seeing hundreds of residents celebrating the season together is truly heartwarming."

Uptown businesses will also hold extended hours during the holiday celebration.

"As in years past, shopping Uptown could pay off with our Passport to Christmas activity," Clark said. "Simply visit participating Uptown businesses, get a stamp, and submit your card for a chance to win prizes."

Marysville's annual Christmas Walk is set for 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30. The event is free and open to the public. More information can be found at
