Knights of Columbus

donates to Special Olympics

The Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities recently received a $965 donation to benefit the Special Olympics.

It came from the Knights of Columbus Council 12772 at St. Joseph Parish in Plain City, according to spokeswoman Carol Scheiderer.

The funds were generated by donations made during the K of C Measure-Up program, and from the sale of raffle tickets during the Knights' six Lenten fish fries earlier this year, according to deputy grand knight Bob Hess.

The UCBDD Cougars had six participants in track and field events this year, along with 27 participants in bowling; 15 are gearing up for basketball. Special Olympics coordinator Lisa Stooksbury said she would probably put the funds toward the cost of uniforms.

"I foresee the participation numbers increasing next year and I would like to see all athletes in matching uniforms," Stooksbury said.
