Zimmerman's resignation is effective Feb. 3, 2012. "From a family standpoint it's time," Zimmerman said. Zimmerman began his 40-year career in the district in 1972 as a teacher and coach, became an administrator in 1977 and the district's superintendent in 1997.
He announced his resignation to the board on July 20 in a letter addressed to board president, Jeff Mabee.
"I love this place and feel my commitment to the district and community has been steadfast and has not wavered," Zimmerman said in the letter. "This is a great community and school district, with great staff serving great kids.
"I thank the community and the school district for being gracious, for helping my family feel welcome and appreciated, and for all of us to have had the opportunity to serve and work with so many genuinely caring people."
