ThisWeek Community News publications were recognized with 15 awards from the Ohio Newspaper Association Feb. 11, in the ONA's annual contest among the state's weekly newspapers.

ThisWeek Community News publications were recognized with 15 awards from the Ohio Newspaper Association Feb. 11, in the ONA's annual contest among the state's weekly newspapers.

The honors included first-place awards in feature writing, in-depth reporting, sports coverage, news photography and sports photography.

The ONA received 768 entries from 54 newspaper organizations in the 2015 Osman C. Hooper Newspaper Awards contest, organizers said. Entries were judged in four different circulation categories.

Awards to ThisWeek included:

* First place for In-Depth Reporting, circulation Division C, went to news reporter Gary Seman for his coverage of proposed government restrictions on e-cigarette use and the health effects of the new nicotine-delivery devices, published in the ThisWeek German Village Gazette.

* First place in Best Local Feature, Division B, went to news reporter Lori Wince, for her profile of a 15-year-old battling cancer published in ThisWeek New Albany News.

* First place in Sports Coverage, Division A, went to the sports staff of ThisWeek Hilliard Northwest News. The design, photography and reporting were complimented by contest judges.

* In Best News Photo, Division A, first place went to staff photographer Ryan Young for his image of a firefighter training exercise published in the ThisWeek Dublin Villager.

* Second place and third place in the same category and division went to ThisWeek Chief Photographer Joshua Bickel, for his photos published in ThisWeek Westerville News & Public Opinion and the ThisWeek Dublin Villager, respectively.

* Bickel also was recognized with the first-place award in Best Feature Photo, Division A, for his photo of the Dublin Kiwanis Frog Jump published in the ThisWeek Dublin Villager.

* Second place in Best Feature Photo, Division A, went to ThisWeek photographer Lorrie Cecil, for her image of the Rotary 5K Heroes Run published in ThisWeek Westerville News & Public Opinion.

* Cecil also won the third-place award in Best Feature Photo, Division B, for her photo of students celebrating Peace Week published in ThisWeek New Albany News.

* In Best Sports Photo, ThisWeek photographer/designer John Hulkenberg won first place in Division B for his girls cross country photo published in ThisWeek New Albany News.

* Bickel was awarded second place in Best Sports Photo, Division A, for his Hilliard Darby High School football shot published in ThisWeek Hilliard Northwest News.

* Second place in Best Local Feature, Division A, went to news reporter Andrew King for his story about Warren Ernsberger, a Westerville man who helped pick the date for the D-Day invasion in World War II, published on the 70th anniversary of the invasion in ThisWeek Westerville News & Public Opinion.

* Second place in Sports Coverage, Division B, went to ThisWeek New Albany News.

* Second place in Advertising, Division A, went to ThisWeek Westerville News & Public Opinion.

* Second place in Best Special Section also went to ThisWeek's Westerville edition, for the annual Friday Night Live Central Ohio High School Preview Guide. The section is a combined effort from the entire ThisWeek sports staff.
