A memorial ceremony honoring the lives of Union County officers who have given their lives in service, and those who continue to serve, was held on the north lawn of the Union County Courthouse and Justice Center Thursday, May 19.

A memorial ceremony honoring the lives of Union County officers who have given their lives in service, and those who continue to serve, was held on the north lawn of the Union County Courthouse and Justice Center Thursday, May 19.

Three members of the Union County Sheriff's Office who died in the line of duty were remembered at the service.

Sheriff Forest S. Hager was killed in a vehicle-train collision in September 1927.

Sgt. Roger Beekman was killed while responding to an alarm in September 1979

Union County Sheriff Harry Wolfe was killed in January 1982 while investigating a burglary alarm.

"The law enforcement officers who we are honoring have made the ultimate sacrifice to the citizens of Union County," Marysville Police Chief Floyd Golden said. "It is important that their sacrifice and that of their families not be forgotten."

The Fairbanks High School choir sang The Star-Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful during the ceremony.

Mike Montgomery, a firefighter with Marysville Division of Police, played the bagpipes, and Lt. Kelly Weakley of the Ohio State Highway Patrol performed taps.
