Mount Carmel New Albany Surgical Hospital is collecting unused medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the hospital property, 7333 Smith's Mill Road in New Albany.

"I'm glad to be able to take part in this prescription drug collection," said Police Chief Mark Chaney. "No questions will be asked about the prescription drugs to be turned in, and we won't be gathering any personal data, either. If people feel more comfortable blacking out any portion of personal information, they are more than welcome to do so. Our goal in taking back these drugs is simply to make our community safer."

The drugs will be incinerated according to federal and state environmental guidelines. Pills and capsules only will be collected; no liquid medications will be accepted. The collection is sponsored by the New Albany Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Mount Carmel.

The Plain Township Fire Department began its annual fall hydrant flushing program last week.
