Beginning Saturday, April 30, Menards will be hosting a nine-day "Grand Opening Celebration" at the new Mega Store located at 1805 Morse Road.

"The celebration will include great deals on merchandise, prize giveaways, in-store demonstrations and appearances," according to company spokesman Jeff Abbott.

"We are really excited for the grand opening," general manager Joey Williams was quoted as saying in the announcement. "We'll have some great celebrities on hand to sign autographs plus product demonstrations and prizes to give away each and every day. There will be balloons for the kids and free gifts for everyone so come out and see this beautiful new store as it should be an exciting week."

The lineup of celebrities includes all sports figures, many of them, as might be expected, with ties to the Ohio State University football program.

This begins with former Buckeye quarterback Troy Smith, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2006. The Cleveland native, who took over the starting job as a sophomore in 2004, was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens and currently plays for the San Francisco 49ers.

Smith will be appearing at Menards on Monday, May 2, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Next up will be Richard Childress of the RCR NASCAR Racing Team on Tuesday, May 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. Childress, whose team is based in Welcome, N.C., was named the 2010 NASCAR Owner of the Year by The Sporting News.

"Richard Childress will appear at the store to talk racing and sign free autographs with the fans," according to the Menards announcement. "This special racing appearance will also include race cars on hand and other drivers."

On Wednesday, May 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. former Cincinnati Reds all-star pitcher Rob Dibble is scheduled to appear. Named the Most Valuable Player in the 1990 National League Championship Series, Dibble was also a member of the All-Star team in both 1990 and 1991. He retired in 1995 and is now co-host and analyst on a variety of sports talk shows.

Finally, former Ohio State and NFL Pro Bowl running back Keith Byars is to be at Menards from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 5.

"After an illustrious All-American career at Ohio State, Keith Byars was selected as the 10th overall pick in the 1986 NFL Draft," the announcement states. "An all-purpose running back for 14 NFL seasons, Byars starred with the Eagles, Dolphins, Patriots and Jets with a Pro Bowl selection in 1993. Byars went on to become the NFL's all-time leader in receptions by a running back in 1998."

A family-owned company founded in 1960, Menards currently operates 262 home improvement stores located in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
