Sophomore catcher Kori Caughenbaugh had a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Licking Valley High School softball team to a 4-2 win over DeSales in a Division II district final May 25 at Pickerington Central.

Outfielder Shelby Robinson opened the inning with a double to center field and, two sacrifices and a fielder's choice later, Caughenbaugh lined a single to center to score Robinson and second baseman Krissy Hughes.

The third-seeded Panthers improved to 19-7 and advanced to play Dover in a regional semifinal May 30 at Central. The ninth-seeded Stallions, who had won four consecutive district titles, finished 14-12.

"We put a couple nice balls down and moved some runners," said Licking Valley coach Mark Paxton, whose team won its second consecutive district title. "Caughenbaugh got a huge, clutch hit and the girls set the table before that."

DeSales pitcher Kate Miltko allowed five hits and five walks with two strikeouts in six innings and the Stallions committed three errors. Two of the errors came in the bottom of first, helping Licking Valley tie the game at 1.

DeSales had scored in the top of the inning, as shortstop Leah Roten reached on an error to start the game, moved to second on an error and scored on a single by first baseman Chloe Biskner.

Licking Valley took a 2-1 lead in the third inning on a DeSales error and two sacrifices, but the Stallions tied the game at 2 in the top of the sixth on back-to-back doubles by third baseman Anna Gentile and Biskner.
