Petco will open its eighth central Ohio store in spring 2016.

The San Diego-based chain will take over 12,500 square feet of space in the Arlington Square, at the southwest corner of Henderson and Reed roads.

The pet store will occupy several vacant storefronts on the east end of the center, where Alex's Bistro, Blumen Garten Florists, Greek to Me cafe, a golf store and a dry cleaner once were located.

Anchored by T.J. Maxx and HomeGoods, the shopping center is 100 percent leased, said Steven Friedman, leasing director of Select Strategies Realty. Another recent addition to the center is Wendy's, now under construction in an outparcel that faces Henderson. It is expected to be opened by the end of the year. Another Wendy's farther west on Henderson will close when the new one opens, Friedman said.

The Arlington Center property is owned by an out-of-town company.

Petco has five other locations in central Ohio: Olentangy River Road, Federated Boulevard, Clintonville, Easton, Westerville, Reynoldsburg and Grove City. It previously had a location in Kingsdale but closed that Upper Arlington store.

Officials from the company were not immediately available for comment.
