A new fitness and sports facility in Lewis Center is sending folks to greater heights.

Sky Zone Recreational Center this month opened its wall-to-wall trampoline courts at 459 Orange Point Drive, Lewis Center.

Westerville resident Laura Knipfer opened the first Ohio franchise of the center after visiting one in St. Louis.

"We were visiting family (and) they suggested we go to Sky Zone to burn some post-Thanksgiving dinner calories. ... From that moment on I couldn't stop thinking about what a fun family activity it was and how well something like that would be received in Columbus," Knipfer wrote in an e-mail.

The facility's main court has 33 interconnected floor trampolines. It also has a dodge ball court with 12 floor trampolines, a tumble track, six wall trampolines and four corner trampolines. Private party rooms for birthdays and corporate events also are available.

Activities at the facility include open jump sessions, birthday parties, aerobic classes on the trampoline, cross training, corporate events and dodge ball tournaments.

"This concept is so unique and so much fun for everyone. I like that you don't have to be a certain age, size or have any particular athletic abilities to participate. It's fun fitness, which is rare for kids these days," Knipfer wrote.

Knipfer said the facility brought 20 new jobs to the Lewis Center area: four full-time salaried positions and 16 part-time positions.

"I chose Lewis Center because of the demographics of the area as well as the type of building I needed to accommodate the structure of the trampoline. As a parent, I also knew it had to be in a safe place where people would feel comfortable taking their children," Knipfer wrote.

Open jump costs $8 per hour Tuesday through Thursday and $12 per hour Friday through Sunday and on holidays and school breaks.

"SkyRobics" classes cost $40 per month or $8 per visit. A $29.95 annual membership includes two free jump sessions, $2 off per visit and a T-shirt.

To jump on the trampoline, participants must wear special shoes provided by Sky Zone and included in the open jump cost. Participants or their parents or guardians must sign a waiver before jumpers may enter the trampoline areas.

The hours of operation are 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, noon to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. The facility is closed on Mondays.
