The city of Powell's Parks and Recreation Department has announced that children can mail their Christmas wish lists to Santa Claus at the Powell Municipal Building, 47 Hall St.

A holiday mailbox will be placed just outside the building during the week of Thanksgiving. Santa will reply to each letter he receives.

Children should print their return address on their letters so that Santa's reply will reach them. A "Letters to Santa" form may be found at www.cityofpowell.us. Click a link in the "scrolling news" at the bottom of the home page.

Children may deliver their letters in person during the Dec. 4 Holidays in Powell event, which runs from noon to 5:30 p.m. at the municipal building and at Village Green Park. Letters must be in Santa's hands by Dec. 13 so that he can reply before Christmas.

The city of Powell has received its fourth straight award for its annual financial report.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded the city its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR) for Powell's 2009 comprehensive annual report.

The award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

Powell finance director Debra Miller received a Financial Reporting Achievement award for her preparation of the CAFR.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.

Ohio Wesleyan University is included in a list of colleges and universities with high levels of pre-tenure faculty job satisfaction.

The Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE), a 160-member organization based at Harvard's Graduate School of Education, included OWU on a list that also includes Kenyon College, Wellesley College and Wesleyan University in Connecticut.

The report drew from a survey of 15,000 junior faculty members at 127 of the organization's member colleges. OWU ranked as exceptional on two dimensions: clarity of expectations for tenure; and work and home balance and supports.

The list separates Ph.D./research institutions, master's degree institutions and baccalaureate institutions. OWU is on the list of baccalaureate schools. The complete list also includes Bowdoin College, Hendrix College, Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York, Mount Holyoke College, St. Olaf College and Trinity College.
