Worthington will welcome the holidays this Sunday with the annual downtown open house and lighting of the tree on the Village Green.

Downtown stores, decorated for Christmas and filled with gift and decorating ideas, will open at noon, and the official lighting of the tree is set for 5:30 p.m.

There will be sidewalk entertainment all afternoon, and Santa will be on the porch of the Worthington Inn for photos with children from 1 to 5 p.m.

Horse-drawn carriages will transport visitors around Old Worthington from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

At 5:30, the community is invited to gather around the Christmas tree on the southeast quadrant of the Village Green.

Santa will arrive, and everyone will be given a candle to light and hold while they sing carols and the tree is lighted.

There are even more and brighter lights this year, as the old ones have been replaced with energy-efficient LED lights.

The Olde Worthington Business Association sponsors the open house and the "Illuminated Shopping Extravaganza" that will be held Thursday, Dec. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Luminaries will line the streets, which will be ablaze with holiday lights. Stores will be open and some will offer special deals on gifts.

A romantic "Cinderella Carriage" will transport shoppers around town, leaving from the corner of High Street and New England Avenue from 7 to 9 p.m.
