Because of a reporter’s error, Olentangy school board candidate Adam White’s statements were attributed incorrectly to candidate Martin Johnson in a story (“Four seek three seats on school board”) in the Oct. 20 edition of ThisWeek Olentangy.
The following statements should have been attributed to White:
The district’s biggest need is financial stability, in addition to an improved curriculum, White said.
“We keep falling down versus the rest of the world and the rest of the state,” he said.
Instead of focusing on fundraising and offering students rewards for selling products, students should be rewarded for academic prowess, White said. He said spending, especially on salaries and benefits, needs to be cut.
“We need entitlement reform because almost all of the budget goes to benefits. ... They used it all on benefits and now they have to raise money,” White said. “Step increases need to be eliminated completely. We’re just giving raises because they’re there. No private sector company does that.”
