Four vehicles parked in the Retreat Lane area were broken into May 20, with the owners losing $937 worth of property, Powell police said.

Items were stolen between 1:50 and 2:30 a.m. May 20 from a car parked in the 900 block of Retreat Lane, police said.

The victim reported someone smashed out the car's window to gain entry and stole a GPS device and a purse.

Two unlocked vehicles in the driveway also were entered, but no additional items were stolen, police said.

An officer who responded to the scene began to patrol the neighborhood and, minutes later, discovered two cars with smashed windows outside a residence in the 600 block of Retreat Lane.

A GPS device was stolen from each car, but an envelope containing $500 left on the front seat of one of the vehicles was untouched, reports said.

Damages were reported to another vehicle nearby, reports said. Marks on the front window indicated someone tried but failed to shatter it, according to police.

Later, a resident of the 600 block of Eagle Ridge called police to report a coin purse containing $10 to $20 in change was stolen from a car parked outside her residence between 10 p.m. May 19 and 6:15 a.m. May 20.

On May 21, police recovered the purse stolen from Retreat Lane; it had been tossed onto the shoulder of state Route 315. A wallet and cellphone were missing from it, reports said.
