The Braves were 16-8 before playing host to sixth-seeded Pickerington North in a regional semifinal May 19.

"We did a good job of covering our hitters and we blocked Dublin Scioto very well," coach Travis Weitthoff said. "We set the ball evenly and we served well.

"Thomas Irwin hit well outside and Tyler Hardin had good serves and good passes."

The semifinal winner advanced to a regional final Friday, May 22, against top-seeded Hilliard Davidson or 12th-seeded Westerville Central at Central.

Olentangy beat Central 25-15, 25-17 on May 2.

"We need to stay focused and keep having fun," Weitthoff said. "We have to serve tough, block well and hit hard."

The regional champion advances to the eight-team state tournament May 30 and 31 at Capital University.

Patriots win tourney opener

Third-seeded Liberty beat 16th-seeded Upper Arlington 25-15, 25-18, 25-16 in the first round of the Division I East Region tournament May 16 at home.

Daniel Koloff had 11 kills, three blocks, 16 assists and three aces, Jay Koehler had eight kills and three blocks and Zach Hudson had seven kills, three blocks and eight digs.

The Patriots were 19-4 before playing fifth-seeded Gahanna in a regional semifinal May 19 at Hilliard Darby.

The winner advanced to a regional final Friday, May 22, against second-seeded Darby or ninth-seeded Westerville South at Westerville Central.

Liberty swept South during the regular season, winning 25-22, 25-17, 20-25, 25-21 on March 31 and 25-21, 25-16, 25-18 on April 20.
