The Olentangy High School girls lacrosse team is one win away from returning to the Division I state tournament.

The Braves defeated Rocky River Magnificat 13-7 in a regional semifinal May 18 and will play in the North/Central Region final Thursday, May 21, at Medina. The winner advances to a state semifinal May 29 at Westerville Central.

Last season, Olentangy won a regional title before losing to eventual champion Cincinnati Sycamore 14-8 in a state semifinal.

"We want another shot at it," co-coach Amy Halls said. "We're playing pretty well right now. This was a great team effort (against Magnificat). The girls are definitely excited. We played with great intensity and (goalkeeper) Madison Barnes made a lot of saves, a lot of big, crucial saves."

Barnes stopped 18 shots for Olentangy, which improved to 14-2. Katie Stegmann and Mary Tarantine both scored four goals, and Haley McCullough and Morgan McCullough both added two.

The Braves, who had a first-round bye, advanced to the regional semifinal by beating Hudson 18-13 in a second-round game May 15. Stegmann scored seven goals and Haley McCullough had four. Stevie Jefferis, Morgan McCullough and Dana Stover all scored two goals.

Patriots ousted in regional semi

Liberty won its first two games in the Division I North/Central Region tournament before losing to Dublin Coffman 14-11 in a semifinal May 18.

The Patriots also lost to Coffman 13-9 in a regional semifinal last season.

Liberty finished 12-6-1.

Against Coffman, Kelley Fitzgerald scored three goals and Katie Wetterauer-Jackson and Dani Bursinger both added two.

The Patriots beat Strongs-ville 20-6 in the first round May 12 and Uniontown Green 20-3 in the second round May 15.

Against Strongsville, Abbey Gay had five goals, Bursinger scored four and Megan Maitino added three. Against Green, Wetterauer-Jackson and Fitzgerald led the way with four goals and Madison Gouhin added three.

Pioneers fall in second round

Orange finished 9-9, losing to Coffman 7-6 in the second round of the Division I North/Central Region tournament May 15.

The Pioneers beat Westerville South 24-4 in the first round May 12.

Against South, Kailey Collett, Jenny Spragg, Sarah Ramsey and Carly Vroom all scored three goals. Kailee O'Brien, Lauren Nobile, Brooke Delara and Katie Sarson all added two goals.

Against Coffman, Ramsey and Nobile both scored twice and Corynn Schneider made six saves.
