Chocolate is a foodstuff that holds universal appeal and understandably so, given its purported health benefits in small doses and, of course, its deliciousness.

For the fifth consecutive year, all things chocolate will be celebrated at the "Chocolate Hop," a fundraiser sponsored by the Olde Pickerington Village Business Association.

The Chocolate Hop is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 1, in historic downtown Pickerington.

For a $5 donation, chocolate lovers will receive a map of participating Olde Village businesses. Upon visiting those businesses, each participant will receive a chocolate treat as a gesture of appreciation for their patronage.

"It's a fundraiser for us and for a charity," said Peggy Portier, president of the Olde Pickerington Village Business Association.

"This year we are doing it for the Pickerington-Violet Township Historical Society," Portier said.

She said the Chocolate Hop is a successful event that garners a lot of enthusiasm each year.

"Everybody loves chocolate," said Portier, adding "I love chocolate."

Friends, families and couples can soak up the quaint atmosphere in Olde Village and know they are also helping a great cause by supporting both business association and the Historical Society, she said.

"It is also a good way to meet the business owners in Olde Village to see what we have to offer," she said.

Deblin Jennings, who owns Deblin Designs in Olde Pickerington Village, said she looks forward to the event every year.

"It's just a really unique way to experience Olde Pickerington Village," Jennings said. "You get to go to all the businesses and get a delightful treat.

"And it makes for a great Mothers' Day gift," she said.

Tickets to the event can be purchased in advance at Deblin Designs, 18 E. Columbus St., 614-833-3803 or by visiting the Pickerington-Violet Township Historical Society at 15 E. Columbus St. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 25.
