The Pickerington Local School District has once again been recognized for excellence in financial reporting.

The Pickerington Local School District has once again been recognized for excellence in financial reporting.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has given the district Treasurer's Office the Award of Financial Reporting Achievement.

The award was established in 1945, and seeks to encourage state and local governments to go beyond minimum requirements of accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports (CAFRs) to provide "transparency and full disclosure" of revenues and expenditures.

Ryan Jenkins became Pickerington's treasurer in April 2013, and said he believes the district has received the award every year since at least 2007.

Additionally, the treasurer's office has received the Ohio Auditor of State's Award with Distinction for financial reporting every year since at least 2007.

"I am pleased to carry on a tradition of excellence in financial management and reporting in service of the residents and businesses of the Pickerington Local School District," Jenkins said.

"I think this says that we strive to maintain the highest standards of financial accountability for our residents and businesses so that we are sure that our resources are appropriately spent on our children," he said.

"We seek to attain and keep the confidence and the trust of our residents and businesses as it relates to the use of the tax dollars entrusted to us.

"The award serves as a reminder of how important that task is."

PIckerington Superintendent Valerie Browning-Thompson echoed those sentiments, noting the GFOA award demonstrates the district is adhering to program standards and represents the highest award in government and financial reporting.

"We are proud of the work of our treasurer and the treasurer staff," Browning-Thompson said.

"Ryan Jenkins is respected in our district and across the state for his work."
