To the editor:
The members of Reynoldsburg Helping Hands thank all the caring individuals, churches, businesses and special groups for their continued support of the food pantry through food donations and monetary gifts.
We deeply appreciate everything you have done for us, not only this year but for the past 37 years.
In January 2010, we began serving clients every three months. So far this year, we have spent $28,476.36 on client services. This expenditure includes purchasing food weekly to keep the pantry shelves adequately supplied when donations fall below the number of client requests for food and also buys milk, eggs, bread, margarine, chicken legs, hamburger, hot dogs, bologna and frozen entrees.
We help prevent utility shutoffs (gas, water, electric), provide basic school supplies for children and holiday meal support in the form of grocery gift cards. The number of clients served in the last 10 months is 2,130, of which 999 were children.
All these people have been served by 12 dedicated, hardworking volunteers.
Like any other business operation, we have to pay rent, utilities, insurance and interior upkeep for our building. Yes, we do have some funds in reserve, which has enabled us to weather the recession and remain open without cutting services to those in need. In reality, we have increased services to our clients. We believe that wise stewardship is fundamental in good economic times as well as the difficult ones.
Thank you again to all our supporters. We wish you a very happy holiday season.
