Reynoldsburg police have filed felony theft charges against former Reynoldsburg Soccer Association club director and treasurer Tim Thompson.

Police detective Jeff Gammell said Thompson has been charged with taking more than $5,000 from the club. If he is convicted of the fourth-degree felony, he could face six to 18 months in prison.

Gammell said the charges were filed with the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office on April 27. The case is expected to go before a grand jury sometime in May, he said.

Lt. James O'Neill said Thompson hasn't been arrested, adding that police would wait for an indictment.

Police began investigating the case in June 2010, after receiving reports that thousands of dollars had been stolen from the club over the past few years. Gammell said Matt Knorr, director of coaching for the soccer club, first approached police in June, after he noticed money missing from the club's coffers.

Knorr said Thompson, a Reynoldsburg resident, had worked for the club, now called the Alliance Soccer Club, until last fall.
