Upper Arlington High School junior Frank Epitropoulos has verbally committed to play football for Ohio State.

Epitropoulos, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound wide receiver and punter, accepted a scholarship offer from Ohio State coach Jim Tressel on April 26. He committed to the Buckeyes a day after Ohio State released a letter from the NCAA citing that Tressel had violated NCAA rules.

Epitropoulos' father, John, played for the Buckeyes from 1978-80.

According to UA coach Mike Golden, Epitropoulos also had received scholarship offers from many other Football Bowl Subdivision programs, including Louisville, Michigan State, Stanford, Syracuse, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

Last season with the Golden Bears, Epitropoulos had a team-high 28 receptions for 463 yards and five touchdowns. He averaged 42.2 yards on 29 punts and was named first-team all-OCC-Central Division and all-district.

Epitropoulos also played defensive back for the Bears, recording 55 tackles, including 38 solo, and two interceptions.

Last season, UA finished 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the OCC-Central to place fourth behind champion Hilliard Davidson (7-0).
