The Worthington Christian High School boys soccer team won its ninth consecutive Division III district title Saturday, Oct. 29, at Canal Winchester with a 5-1 win over Delaware Christian.

Brett Elder scored two goals to increase his career prep total to 99 and Ben Tjoelker and George Miller also scored for the Warriors, who will play Wheelersburg or Berlin Hiland in a regional semifinal Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Watkins Memorial.

Worthington Christian improved to 14-4-1 overall and has won seven of its last eight.

"We just came out and got some goals to start the game off well, and it was a good game for us," Warriors coach Dan Roads said. "(Winning district) is something we like to do."

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead on an own goal by the Eagles that Delaware Christian coach Levi Witt believes stung his team.

Jeremy Buchanan scored the Eagles' only goal midway through the second half after the Warriors had built a 4-0 halftime lead.

Delaware Christian finished 12-4-2.

"We were struggling with some (ankle) injuries to key guys, so I thought we played pretty well considering that," Witt said. "Their first goal was an own goal that went off of one of our guys and into the net, and that kind of sucker-punched us. They tagged in a couple goals right after that."
