Eastmoor Academy freshman Averi Brown savored her first experience in the Division II state girls bowling tournament.

After earning one of the two individual state-qualifying berths from the district tournament, Brown placed 17th (558) on March 6 at Wayne Webb's Columbus Bowl.

Her finish was two spots shy of earning honorable mention all-state honors. The top five made the first team, the next five made the second team and the next five were honorable mention.

"It would have been easier (if my team would have qualified) but I know they were cheering me on," Brown said. "This was a great experience."

The district's only other individual qualifier was Cardington senior Taylor Diamond, who finished 18th (557).

In the qualifying round of the team competition, Buckeye Valley was 15th (2,727) and Jonathan Alder was last (2,665) of 16 teams as the top eight advanced to the championship round.
