Another road trip for the Olentangy Liberty High School football team presents another opportunity to take a step forward following its only loss two weeks ago.

The Patriots head to Marysville for an OCC-Central Division contest Friday, Oct. 2, as they look to build momentum heading into what figures to be a difficult league schedule the next three weeks.

After facing the Monarchs, who are 1-4 overall, Liberty plays host to 4-1 Westland on Oct. 9, travels to 4-1 Hilliard Davidson on Oct. 16 and visits 3-2 Dublin Coffman on Oct. 23.

"Our games against (Marysville) are always physical and they come down to the wire," said coach Steve Hale, whose team improved to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the league with a 42-17 win at Upper Arlington on Sept. 25. "I'm sure they're going to come right at us. They always have. We're going to be facing a physical brand of defense."

Liberty leads the all-time series 5-2 following last season's 23-13 win. Four of the games have been decided by seven points or fewer, including the Patriots' 23-20 overtime victory in 2010.

Marysville is 0-2 in the OCC-Central and looking to end a four-game losing streak after a 56-7 setback at Coffman on Sept. 25.

The Shamrocks led 36-0 at halftime and gained 479 yards, including nearly 300 on the ground.

Thomas Rush led Marysville with 70 yards rushing.

Against UA, Liberty had success with its playmaking tandem of Trent Davies and Johnny Wiseman. Davies rushed for 105 yards on 22 carries, including a 13-yard touchdown that gave the Patriots a 32-point lead and started a running clock with the lead exceeding 30 points.

The victory also included marked improvement from quarterback Alex Lando, who threw for 215 yards and two touchdowns, including a 73-yarder to Wiseman. Lando threw two interceptions in a 37-21 loss to Central Crossing on Sept. 18.

Brendon White intercepted two passes and caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Lando.

Davies also returned a kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown.
