When the Westerville Central High School football team puts its undefeated record on the line Friday, Oct. 2, at Hilliard Bradley, the Warhawks might be playing without a key contributor.

Senior quarterback Gavin Lyon injured his right throwing shoulder in a 39-23 win over visiting Canal Winchester on Sept. 25. Coach John Magistro said Lyon would be re-evaluated this week.

If Lyon can't play, senior Daniel Kreuzer is expected to start against the Jaguars. Kreuzer played junior varsity his sophomore year, but decided not to play football last season.

Central, which is 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the OCC-Cardinal Division, leads the all-time series with Bradley 3-0.

Lyon has completed 70 of 119 passes for 829 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions.

Magistro said the Warhawks have had about 18 players injured this season. Senior wide receiver and defensive back Cedric Frierson was lost for the season after suffering a right ACL injury in a 28-21 season-opening overtime win Aug. 28 against Gahanna.

Bradley, which is 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the OCC-Cardinal, also might be playing shorthanded as junior quarterback Will Phillis suffered a foot injury in the fourth quarter against Westerville South on Sept. 25. His status was uncertain earlier in the week.

Last year's starting quarterback, Chance Levitt, led the Jaguars to a 16-13 victory against South. Brady Whittekind kicked a 35-yard field goal as time expired.

"They're coming off a good win last week," Magistro said. "I like their offensive line. They do a good job. They have one who is 370 pounds (senior Jacob Himes). He gets the job done. He moves well for a big guy. Up front they have us outmatched a little bit, (but) we always are outmatched size-wise up front."

For the Warhawks, senior running back Benny Snell has rushed for 929 yards and 14 touchdowns on 119 carries. He had 178 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries against Canal Winchester.

Andrew Wallace has 19 catches for 223 yards and two touchdowns and David Rucker has 19 catches for 220 yards and one touchdown.
