Colton Irion scored 15 of his 25 points in the first half to lead the Dublin Jerome High School boys basketball team past host Hilliard Bradley 60-53 on Dec. 4 in the OCC-Cardinal Division opener for both teams.

Jerome finished second (12-2) in the league last season behind Westerville South (13-1) and Bradley (11-3) was third.

A fast-paced first quarter had Jerome holding a 21-19 edge before its zone defense took hold. The Jaguars (1-1) were limited to two points in the second quarter and did not score in the second half until Brandon Glenn's layup with 4 minutes, 34 seconds left in the third.

"We knew every kid on their team was a good shooter," Irion said. "We wanted to make them put the ball on the floor and drive instead of setting up and shooting."

The Celtics played without the program's leading scorer, senior Mason Baich, who missed his second game with a back injury. Role players like Blake Bickett, Zach Watson and Jake Wilson picked up the slack defensively and with key points.

Bradley's Noah Callahan had three 3-pointers in the fourth and Braden Norris added two 3s as the Jaguars mounted a comeback bid.

"We had a decent first quarter offensively, but we didn't play very well defensively," Bradley coach Brett Norris said. "You can't give a team like that good looks at the basket like we were doing."

Jerome point guard Seve Stavroff had 11 points, all coming on free throws in the fourth. Watson had 12 points and Wilson scored eight.

Braden Norris led Bradley with 14 points and four 3-pointers. Callahan had 12 points on four 3s and Capell Miller had nine points. Isaiah Speelman had 11 points, but left with a right ankle injury with 6:29 left in the game.
