The Upper Arlington High School girls water polo team still rules the state.

The Golden Bears defeated Napoleon 11-3 in the state championship game Oct. 22 at Cincinnati Princeton to win their third consecutive title, sixth in seven years and 16th overall.

UA combined an explosive offense with a swarming defense in the state tournament, averaging 14.7 goals per game while giving up only nine total.

The top-seeded Bears, who finished 27-1-1, defeated eighth-seeded Princeton 15-5 in a second-round game Oct. 21 and fifth-seeded Thomas Worthington 18-1 in a semifinal Oct. 22.

UA took a 4-1 first-quarter lead over second-seeded Napoleon in the final, led 6-1 at halftime and limited Napoleon to one shot in the third period in taking an 8-1 lead.

Among other area teams, Thomas defeated Cincinnati Sycamore 7-6 in the third-place game Oct. 22.

Ninth-seeded Worthington Kilbourne lost to Princeton 8-4 in the eighth-place game later that night.
