The St. Charles Preparatory School water polo team lost to seventh-seeded Cincinnati St. Xavier 13-11 in the state championship game Oct. 29 at Mason.

The top-seeded Cardinals went 2-1 in the state tournament, which began Oct. 28, to finish 29-9-1. Ben Sugar had five goals in the championship game, and Stuart Decker scored three.

After a first-round bye, St. Charles defeated eighth-seeded Milford 20-11 in the second round and fourth-seeded Dayton Oakwood 19-5 in a semifinal.

Third-seeded Thomas Worthington finished third by defeating Dayton Oakwood 9-3 in the third-place game. Taylor Weinsz and Brendon Zurovchak both had three goals and Jack King scored two for Thomas, which had a first-round bye before defeating sixth-seeded Toledo St. Francis 11-9 in the second round and losing to St. Xavier 17-8 in a semifinal.

Led by Drew Wilson, second-seeded Upper Arlington defeated fifth-seeded Cincinnati Sycamore 19-3 in the fifth-place game to finish 26-6. Wilson scored a program-record 12 goals against the Aviators. After a first-round bye, the Golden Bears lost to St. Xavier 11-6 in the second round before defeating St. Francis 13-3 to reach the fifth-place match.
