Coming off a pair of key OCC-Central Division wins, the Hilliard Davidson High School football team appears to be in position to win its 23rd league title and earn its ninth consecutive postseason berth.

The Wildcats improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the OCC-Central with a 7-6 win at Dublin Coffman on Oct. 14. That followed a 24-7 league victory over previously unbeaten Upper Arlington on Oct. 7.

Davidson visits Marysville on Friday, Oct. 21, before closing the regular season Oct. 28 at home against Westland. The Monarchs lost to visiting UA 42-21 on Oct. 14 to drop to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the league, while the Cougars are 0-8 and 0-3 heading into their game against Coffman on Oct. 21.

The Wildcats were projected to be fifth in this week's Division I, Region 3 computer ratings, behind Coffman (fourth) and ahead of UA (seventh). The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.

"We have two more league games in order to win the league and we're going to work our butts off this week to make sure we have no letdowns going into these last two weeks," coach Brian White said.

Marysville is led by junior running back Tommy Rush, who ran for 115 yards and three touchdown on 29 carries against UA.

The Wildcats limited Coffman's potent offense to 156 total yards and nine first downs.

"Our defense has come to play the last two weeks," White said. "Defensively, we struggled mightily early in the year. But over the last two weeks, our defense has come to play and I couldn't be any prouder of them."

Ryan Royer scored the game's only touchdown on a 7-yard run in the second quarter, and Kent Hummell rushed for 157 yards on 22 carries.

For the season, Royer has rushed for 1,028 yards and 14 touchdowns on 195 carries, and quarterback David St. Clair has run for 754 yards and four touchdowns on 103 carries.
