The Upper Arlington Senior Center, 1945 Ridgeview Road, is making it easier for members to keep New Year's resolutions to get in shape.

Beginning in January, the Senior Center's Studio 55 fitness center will become an official "SilverSneakers" site. SilverSneakers is a national program that helps older adults, often dealing with chronic conditions, to improve their health through exercise.

Participation in SilverSneakers is covered by several major insurance companies, including Wellcare of Ohio, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Humana, and AARP Medicare plans.

"We're asking people in the new year to bring in their insurance cards so we can check their eligibility," said Sally Gard, Senior Center administrator.

Studio 55 opened in September 2007 after an extensive renovation. The space became available when Northwest Counseling Services vacated a satellite office in the Senior Center as part of an expansion at Northwest's Fishinger Road headquarters.

Studio 55 offers a variety of exercise equipment.

"It's aerobic and strength training equipment, elliptical riders, stationary bicycles, recumbent bicycles," Gard said.

Instructors are on hand to help patrons use the equipment.

"It is staffed at all times if they need assistance," she said.

Hours of operation for Studio 55 are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon; Monday through Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. For more information, call (614) 583-5320.
