The Upper Arlington Police Division this week announced two promotions, including naming its first female lieutenant.

Police Chief Brian Quinn promoted Tracy Hahn to the rank of lieutenant and Scott Harpster to the rank of sergeant on Aug. 12. Harpster will oversee patrol officers in the city.

"Both of them possess the leadership characteristics we're looking for," Quinn said. "Both are well-respected in the division."

Hahn has been with the city's police force since 1993. She began her career in law enforcement with the Ohio State University Police Department in 1990.

In 2001, Hahn became the UAPD's first female sergeant, and she has served as Detective Bureau sergeant for the past six years.

Harpster joined the UAPD in 2003 after working for five years with the Cincinnati Police Department.

Prior to his promotion, he served as a patrol officer. A United States Navy veteran, Harpster most recently was a detective in the police division's Investigative Bureau.
